Thora Birch was born March 11, 1982. She is an American actress, producer, and director. Her debut in film was in Purple People Eater (1988) which earned her an Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress Under Nine Years Old". Birch was a child actress who appeared in films such as All I Want For Christmas (1991) The the Patriot Games(1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (94), Now and Then (1995) as well as Alaska (1996). She received a Young Artist Award in the category of "Best Young Actress under Nine Years of Age." In 1999, Birch played Jane Burnham in American Beauty. This film brought her an BAFTA nomination. In the following year, she played in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. In 2003, Birch received an Emmy Award nomination for her performance in the title role in Homeless to Harvard The Liz Murray Story. Other films she has appeared in include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009) and Petunia (2012).After having off from acting, Birch returned to her acting career in the year 2016 and has since appeared in several independent films. Birch was also the Whisperer Mary/Gamma in the season 10 episode of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch her family, which originally was named Biersch, is German-Jewish and Scandinavian. Birch also has French-Canadian, French-Canadian, and Italian heritage. [6] Her name, Thora is an abbreviation of Thora, the Norse god thunder and lightning ("Thor"), which would be her name had she were a boy. Kian Bolt Birch is her younger brother. Both parents had roles in adult films , and also appeared in Deep Throat. Because of their own experiences in the entertainment business, they were reluctant at first to encourage Thora. However, Thora's photograph was viewed by agents when a babysitter watched her mimic commercials.
