Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She was twice Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams that have won individual team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals for the team and floor competitions, in addition to the bronze medal for the balance beam, which made her the most well-known American gymnast to compete at the Games. She also won a team gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans who have won back-to-back gold medals at this event. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. She also is the two-time champion of national floor exercise (2012,2015) as well as the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, and a five-time medalist at the national championships in the all around (silver in 2016, and silver in 2012, 2011 2013, 2012 and 2013 and 2015). In 2013 she was admitted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She is the mother of three children, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and states that "I take a lot off having the opportunity to not only represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish Community everywhere." Raisman began gymnastics at 18 months old. She attributes her first passion for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team which won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level of 8. She then joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online , while practicing for the Olympics.
