ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was a multisport athlete throughout her childhood, however she was only introduced to soccer at the age of 14. After graduating from high school, Morgan was a part of Cypress Elite's club team. They were the winners of the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and placed third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to train at Diamond Bar High School, where she honed her soccer abilities. She was chosen as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Additionally, she played for state and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer from her first season. She was instrumental in getting the team into the NCAA Tournament all four years and into second rounds twice. Morgan was among four finalist for the Honda Sports Award and the first student from her college to make the list of Hermann Trophy finalists. Upon graduating a semester before the end of the year in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in the history of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan managed to have soccer careers at both the college and national levels during her studies. Morgan suffered an ACL injury in her first year as a Berkeley player. She was not able to participate in training with the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April. The following season, she scored her first international goal in the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan also participated in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup where she scored four goals and receiving an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was then recruited by the national team's senior squad, who she replaced and scored a number of important goals. One of those goals was a victory over Italy which secured the U.S. team the final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and he led the team to victory over France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both an assist or a goal.
